EBICS V 4.0 - Request for Comments

EBICS has been used as a standard procedure in communication between corporate customers and banks for many years.

The community of "EBICS countries" - organised in the EBICS SC - now consists of four countries (i.e. the banking industries of these countries).
Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria offer this standard to their corporate customers with an almost nationwide coverage – In addition, EBICS (as an open standard) can also be used in other countries.

The EBICS SC is particularly responsible for the further development of the EBICS standard. Development is driven by the market, i.e. the vendors of EBICS products (servers, client software as well as portal solutions). In some cases, banks also implement EBICS solutions themselves.

EBICS V 3.0 was launched in the year 2018 in order to harmonise the procedure by closing the scope for interpretation and standardising the previously country-specific identifiers for business transactions. This was important in order to promote the spread of EBICS. However, this primarily served cross-border acting banks and corporate clients.

Therefore, EBICS SC has decided to focus on the following two aspects with the next version of the EBICS standard:

  • EBICS V 4.0 will improve the standard from the customer perspective taking current and future requirements
of all corporate customers into account.
  • EBICS should be further developed in a sustainable and future-proof manner in terms of technology and security.

International groups have been formed on various topics. The EBICS SC would now like to share the results with vendors. Especially we would like to ask all interested vendors and/or banks to look into the topics and initial draft solutions. Please contact us via E-Mail for V4.0Feedback - we will then send you the information (thematic templates). Please note our data protection information at the end of this section.

Our general questions are:

  • What is your view on this? Do you consider the respective planned change positively or rather critically (and why)?
  • Based on the current work status, do you have any suggestions for the
    detailed specification?
  • Do you see any potential for improvement in the current work status?
  • Where alternatives are formulated (e.g. technical design of the Notification Centre), we request your opinion on a preference or, if applicable, on an alternative not yet mentioned.
